How Often Should You Actually Get a Haircut?

There’s no single right answer. It depends on the cut you wear, how fast your hair grows, and how sharp you want to look day to day. Hair grows roughly half an inch a month for most people, and on a short cut that’s enough to change the whole look. Here’s a simple guide by style.

Skin Fades: Every 1 to 2 Weeks

A skin fade is down to the skin at its shortest point, so even a few days of growth shows. If you want it looking fresh all the time, every week or two is the sweet spot. Stretching to three weeks works, it just won’t have that just-left-the-shop sharpness.

Tapers and Short Cuts: Every 2 to 4 Weeks

Tapers, buzz cuts, and military cuts grow out more gracefully because there’s less contrast. Every two to four weeks keeps them clean. Not sure which one you have? Our skin fade vs. taper guide breaks it down.

Medium and Longer Hair: Every 4 to 8 Weeks

If you’re keeping length on top or growing it out, you don’t need to come in as often. A trim every month or two keeps the shape right and the ends healthy without losing the length you’re working on.

Beards: Every 2 to 4 Weeks

A beard can look good longer between visits, but the neckline and cheek lines blur fast. A professional beard trim every few weeks keeps it looking intentional instead of overgrown.

Stretch It With a Line Up

If a full cut every week or two doesn’t fit your schedule, a quick line up between visits sharpens the edges and buys you extra time. It’s the easiest way to look freshly cut without sitting for a full haircut.
